DESCRIPTION:We are collaborating with Our Adoption Project: adoptee-led\, multidisciplinary arts exhibition Soft Inheritance that aims to explore adoption. Join us for the project Launch with Talkaoke talk show – as ever\, spontaneous and open to all. \nBy making a space for reflection\, storytelling\, and creative perspectives\, we aim to challenge traditional narratives surrounding adoption\, which often distil lived experiences into shorthand. \nAs an adoptee-led project\, we believe that work engaging with adoption can examine themes of family and identity beyond the conventional framing. \n\n\n\n\nWe hope to broaden the conversation around this complex topic and foreground lived experience\, allowing multiple viewpoints to coexist\, opening up new possibilities of representation. \nSupported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England \nA Soft Inheritance will be exhibiting at PINK\, Hilton House\, Stockport \nLaunch Thursday 12th November- 6pm-9pm \nExhibition Open from Friday 13th November-22nd November \n\n\n\n\n\nBook your free place at the Launch via this link. \n

As an adoptee-led project\, we believe that work engaging with adoption can examine themes of family and identity beyond the conventional framing. \nOur Adoption Project: Conversations- Talkaoke Host Training\nTake the mic and learn how to host with The People Speak and their conversation station – Talkaoke. Talkaoke is a live\, television-style talk show format developed by The People Speak art collective from East London. \nThe conversation is a creative medium and a journey from one unexpected subject to another. It can be topical\, funny\, deep\, surreal\, or something else. The participants generate the subjects and the host in the middle keeps everybody engaged. \nLearn a set of skills that turn out to be useful everywhere: \n\nhow to ask a better question?\nhow to hold space for someone whose view you disagree with?\nhow to keep a live\, unpredictable conversation from falling apart?\nhow to actually listen instead of just waiting for your turn to speak?\n\nIt’s free. No experience required\, no particular background expected. Join us for a screening of the award winning film ‘Estate. A Reverie’ (2015\, 83 mins\, PGCert) by resident filmmaker Andrea Luka Zimmerman and residents over seven years. Interweaving intimate portraits with the residents’ own historical re-enactments\, landscape and architectural studies and dramatised scenes\, Estate asks how we might resist being framed exclusively through class\, gender\, ability or disability\, and even through geography… \n \nCast of the Haggerston Estate in "Estate. A Reverie"\n“Knowing the previous work of its creators\, I believe this project will achieve something very significant for the times we are living in. A Reverie" film\nWe will also screen ‘Taking over King’s Land’ (2014\, 23 mins\, PGCert) by Gillian McIver about the mural project\, which happened on the Kingsland Estate in 2012 in the run-up to the Olympics. The biggest solo street art project in London EVER! In a forgotten corner of East London\,  Naz is battling weather\, vandalism and lack of funds\, to create a massive mural installation throughout a condemned housing estate.  Can art counter the urban atmosphere of deprivation\, blight and neglect? Gillian McIver has been following Nazir Tanbouli around with a camera from the very first day of the King’s Land project\, invading his artistic space and asking awkward questions. What’s it about? Art and Life? Man versus beast? Man versus nature? All of the above? \n \nThe evening will include a free-flowing conversation around the Talkaoke table – a pop up talk show by The People Speak. Talkaoke has been sparking unexpected conversations on street corners\, at festivals\, cultural events\, universities\, museums\, youth clubs (…) in the UK and all over the world. We appear everywhere there are people and a need to chat. For us conversation is a creative medium. For almost three decades we have been creating live events that bring strangers together and help with collective decision making. In the world of polarisation our formats aim to create spaces where differences of opinion is encouraged and explored through a shared journey. Just show up – the conversation will do the rest. \nRefreshments will be provided. \n  \nAbout the Estate Talks project \nThe Haggerston and Kingsland Estate has undergone significant regeneration over the past decade.
