SUMMARY:Talkaoke Skills Lab: Talkaoke Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Talkaoke Skills Lab: Talkaoke Information Session  \nby The People Speak [London] and KQ Hub [Kampala]\, supported by the British Council\nThursday 13th January 2022\n12.00pm [UK time]\, 15.00 [Uganda time]\nDuration 90-120 minutes \nRegister your attendance via Eventbrite link \nWelcome to Talkaoke – a television-style online talk show\, where you set the agenda! During this interactive session combining live in-person and online conversations\, you will get a flavour of our emergent\, participant-led approach\, meet the project team and get all your questions answered about the Talkaoke Skills Lab project. If you are an artist\, performer\, musician\, writer\, dancer\, creative producer\, programmer who wants to push the boundaries of socially engaged creative practice – you have come to the right place. Whether it is your first time at Talkaoke or you have been here before – we look forward to meeting you. \n \nHow does Talkaoke work? \nThe format is simple: the Talkaoke host sits in the middle of a doughnut-shaped table and passes the mic around\, inviting contributions and comments from each participant in the studio and online. We use multiple cameras and screens to reflect the multi-dimensional experience\, and instant visualisations to capture the themes. Each discussion is a journey from one unexpected subject to another: it can be topical\, funny\, deep\, surreal\, and everything in between. Talkaoke hosts are trained to stimulate the collective imagination of the participants by expertly linking themes and opposing points of the conversation. On the day just connect via Zoom and we will take it from there. \n  \nWhere can you see Talkaoke? \nWe pop up on street corners\, at galleries\, museums\, theatres\, universities\, shopping centres\, football pitches\, in our studio in East London… Talkaoke makes it easy for people to talk and listen to each other\, regardless of their points of view. We have used it to develop art pieces\, inform policies\, cultural strategies\, public art commissions and research. Our collaborations include most of the UK’s national cultural institutions and museums – all Tate Galleries\, National Theatre\, Barbican Centre\, Science Museum\, V&A; universities and academic institutions – Queen Mary University of London\, Natural History Museum\, The Francis Crick Institute\, many UK festivals: LIFT\, The World Transformed; many social and youth charities. We have collaborated with partners in the US [Genomics Festival\, Boston]\, Australia [The Street\, Canberra]\, Norway [ice-9]. \nRead more about Talkaoke Skills Lab and how to get involved here. \nIf you have questions\, email us on TalkaokeSkillsLab@gmail.co.uk \nTalkaoke Skills Lab is supported by The British Council. \n \n
