The People Speak are teaming up with King’s College London to run interactive workshops for scientists and engineers interested in expanding their creative communication skills.
Wednesday 7th May, 2-4pm
Thursday 8th May, 12-2pm
at Henriette Raphael Building: Revelstoke room Guy’s campus
Our creative facilitation workshops give participants the confidence and creative communication skills useful in any situation. For us, conversation is a creative medium that can lead to an endless number of creative possibilities. Over the years The People Speak have trained people in the art of facilitation and public speaking, using creative methods developed through Talkaoke and influenced by various performance practices including live art, theatre, clowning, comedy and improv. During this practical training session participants will focus on creative linking, neutral voice and building the bridge from the other side – techniques we use in engaging with participants. Armed with wigs and props, Mikey and Margot cover subjects such as: asking open questions, usefulness of tangents, exploration of assumptions, dealing with opposing views, active listening and how to generate ideas in a fun way! There will be time to share your thoughts, experiences and uncertainties, which we will address together.
Friday 9th May, 1-5pm
at Memorial Gardens, King’s College London
Talkaoke is an interactive talk-show, where you decide on the subjects. Just grab the mic and have your say! Each discussion is a journey from one unexpected subject to another: it can be topical, funny, deep, surreal, and everything in between. The format is simple: the Talkaoke host sits in the middle of a doughnut-shaped table and passes the mic around, inviting contributions and comments from each participant. Talkaoke host stimulates the collective imagination of the participants by expertly linking themes and opposing points of the conversation. Talkaoke is a great way to hear the latest ideas people are excited about and creatively develop new ones.
