Festival of Genomics & Biodata – Talkaoke

January 28 - January 29

Contact organisers for ticket info

The genomics sector has expanded and the Festival now covers a diverse array of topics beyond genomics, including AI, biodata, cancer diagnostics, drug discovery, genomic medicine, proteomics, multi-omics, single-cell, spatial and so much more. So no matter which area of the life sciences you work in, there’s almost certainly something for you.

Our regular talk show Talkaoke is returning with 2 days worth of themed conversations, driven by you – the participants! Created by The People Speak, Talkaoke our flagship live, television-style talk show and a creative communication format. Talkaoke is non-hierarchical – it is up to the participants to decide on the topics. For us, the conversation is a creative medium and a journey from one unexpected subject to another. It can be topical, funny, deep, surreal, or something else. The participants generate the subjects and the host in the middle keeps everybody engaged. The format is simple: the host sits in the middle of an illuminated round table, and you sit around the outside and talk about whatever comes up. Just grab the microphone and air your views.

We will kick off the Festival with conversations about creative science communication and public engagement. We will share our experince from King’s College London, The Crick Institute, Imperial College, University of Bielefeld (Germany), The Science Museum and Natural History Museum – where we have been using creativity and playfulness to support scientists and science communicators in having more engaging conversations with the public!

Day 1:
11.30am Science communication and the creativity of science
2.10pm Patient journeys and experiences with genomic medicine
4.10pm AI – do we trust it yet?
Day 2:
11.20am What is happening to the life science ecosystem?
2.05pm Thoughts, innovation and navigating the issues around advanced and curative therapies
