You are warmly invited to the Launch of Estate Talks – an afternoon of community conversations at Haggerston Community Centre on Sunday 20th September, 3:30-6:30pm (free event).

The event will be an interactive and fun community get together for all ages, taking place around the Talkaoke table – a talk show format by The People Speak in collaboration with the Haggerston Estate Resident’s Collective.

We will have refreshments for all, so grab a cuppa and meet your neighbours – old friends and new faces. Discover the history and art created by the community throughout the decades.

Join us for the first community get together in a long time, where you can talk about whatever is on your mind. We’d love to hear your ideas: what you’d like to see happen on the Estate, and what kind of activities and events you’d enjoy in the months ahead.

What is Talkaoke?

Talkaoke is a pop-up talk show unlike anything else – a glowing round table, a host in the middle, and people sitting around the outside edge. It’s up to you to decide on the direction of the chat: grab the mic and take the conversation somewhere nobody expected. It can get funny, philosophical, political, surreal or all of the above. Every voice matters. Every idea is welcome. You are welcome to join our glowing ‘doughnut of chat’ for 5 mins or longer, you can listen or take the mic and offer a new subject.

About the Estate Talks project 

The Haggerston and Kingsland Estate has undergone significant regeneration over the past decade. This summer and autumn we are organising Estate Talks – a programme of free public events for the local residents to celebrate the community and imagine the future of the neighbourhood.

The inspiration for the project comes from an award-winning film Estate: A Reverie (2015) made with the residents of Haggerston Estate by Andrea Luka Zimmerman – also a local resident.
