Welcome to Aberfeldy Live! Talkaoke – our monthly interactive pop-up talk show, where you, the participants, set the agenda. Every month we report live from the streets of Poplar and further afield about all the matters local and global. This month we are delighted to join Knitting the Air: Work in Progress Exhibition at the Making Space.
Knitting the Air is using the power of knitting to visualise air pollution data from two Breathe London sensors in Poplar for a whole year. Starting in March 2023, to date over 60 knitters from across E14 and beyond have contributed their time and skills to knit the data.
This exhibition will be showcasing their progress thus far. It will be the first time the completed knitted data will be on display for the public to see. It aims to bring awareness to air pollution locally, open up conversations and spark ideas for solutions. Knitting the Air is part of Poplar Green Futures, a community led strategy and action plan for a healthier, more sustainable Poplar.
Talkaoke is an interactive talk-show, where the participants decide on the subjects. Each discussion is a journey from one unexpected subject to another: it can be topical, funny, deep, surreal, and everything in between. The format is simple: the Talkaoke host sits in the middle of a doughnut-shaped table and passes the mic around, inviting contributions and comments from each participant. Talkaoke host stimulates the collective imagination of the participants by expertly linking themes and opposing points of the conversation.
Come along to MAKING SPACE, 48 Aberfeldy Street, London, E14 0NU.
